Hello, everyone.
We are continuing to seriously downsize. We had opportunity to bless so many friends and family with several items we could not take with us when we officially moved in a few weeks ago. After we gave the new owners the keys to the Tower house, our emotions were everywhere as you might imagine, especially since we could not find our wedding album. Thankfully, they were kind enough to continue searching for it, and they found it – oh, happy day!
While we have completely relocated to our new place, we are far from settled into it. So. Many. Boxes. I am immensely thankful to have many people help keep me grounded as I’ve gone through each box, one at a time. Just yesterday, I finally found some of my missing clothes. And I’ve yet to find the kitchen utensils, so we’ve had a lot of “to go” foods from various restaurants in the past three weeks.
At the end of this month – which is next week already, I am expecting to return to work. I have focused much attention to getting my office in order, yet I still feel a lot of hesitancy in getting back to the job. There are so many responsibilities to tend to with moving as well as Phil’s care. So far, he has been fairly independent with me at home, but it is getting more difficult for him to get in/out of his favorite chair. I ordered a powered lift chair, and it will be here by April. Meanwhile, we wait. We are also waiting for other furniture to arrive – our sleeper sofas will be here in mid-February hopefully.
Other changes for Phil include the loss of use of his left hand; he calls it a great “door stop.” He needs assistance with many things we take for granted – like drying his back after a shower and changing clothes. He continues to walk fairly well; his legs are incredibly strong, thankfully. While walking is okay, Phil gets fatigued pretty quickly even when he uses a rollator walker for distances.
FTD (Frontotemporal Deterioration) has also affected Phil’s everyday tasks. Holding long conversations is not easy for him, and remembering people’s names is a struggle too. His long-term memory is still phenomenal. Chemistry, all things related to the Bible, and historical events are definitely present! Phil continues to bring laughter and joy to others with his stories and songs.
I am so grateful to those of you who have extended help to us. We are loved and blessed. We appreciate each one of you so much!
Thank you for going through the journey with us.
We love you.
