The weather has shifted here in Ohio and the leaves have shown off extraordinary beauty, and we continue to move forward through Phil’s journey.

A couple weeks ago, Phil went through a pulmonary function test.  On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, we met with Dr. A. from Cleveland Clinic.  Dr. A. indicated that Phil’s lungs are working amazingly well.  He discussed Phil’s C-Pap machine and how eventually he may need to switch to a Bi-Pap one.  Additionally, the doctor asked about Phil’s use of the rollator. It’s not about his legs giving way or not working, but rather how he tires so quickly.

An update on driving:  Phil has decided not to continue to drive his car.  I’m thankful so many people have stepped up in offering to take him places, like to men’s group that meets on Wednesday mornings.  He finds much joy when he gathers with his buddies for coffee and Scripture.

An update on our living situation:  on Saturday evening, November 4, 2023, we signed for the sale of our home.  The close date will be early January, and the possession of the keys will be transferred on January 15, 2024. I want to publicly thank Christina Coughlin for being a realtor of integrity, grace, and understanding; she worked diligently to help this be a smooth transition.  We will be celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years here on Tower Blvd, and we will be packing like crazy.  We definitely will need help with this endeavor.  For those of you who have the time and strength, let us know your availability to help us, and we will humbly and gladly accept.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how two nephews passed away in this three-week period.  Phil’s younger brother’s son, D. from Texas was only 38 years old, and Phil’s older brother’s son-in-law, who also has a name that starts with D., was living in Minnesota with our lovely niece – he was only 40 years old.  This has been a brutal season of grief.  And through it all, we have seen lovely glimpses of hope and kindness.

I want to make mention how grateful we are to those of you who have extended help to us, whether it be cards, monetary donations, time spent with Phil, meals prepared, hand-crafted gifts, or praying for us.  The photos are of one of the meals (homemade chicken noodle soup) and of our dear friend who crocheted the beautiful blanket in the picture.  We feel loved and blessed.  We appreciate each one of you so much! Thank you for going through the journey with us.  We love you.
